The tradition of Christmas markets originated in Germany in the fourteenth century , a time when you had to wait fairs to make large purchases , which had regular exhibitions throughout the year , such as during the period of Advent.

In Italy, the first Christmas market was born in Bolzano in 1970 as a " survey of the art market ," only from 1990 onwards it became the famous Christmas market of Bolzano which every year attracts more and more people in the period of December and January.

These markets are not just for occasions then buy Christmas decorations or typical local crafts , but also to spend a quiet weekend " out of town " a bit 'special : it can take the time to stroll the streets of this enchanting city ​​while enjoying the culinary specialties typical Christmas .

Characteristic are the stalls selling steaming soups , wusterl , roasted sausages , sauerkraut accompanied by an essential ingredient in the " Gluhwein ", or mulled wine , mulled wine flavored with cloves , cinnamon, lemon peel and orange that is often offered to tourists.
