Biellese - postard n. 4

The Sanctuary of Oropa: near the ancient basilica, the cells for the pilgrims are connected from corridors and colonnades where is possible to walk and pray in a quiet atmosphere.

According to the tradition, the Sanctuary of Oropa owes its origins to Sant'Eusebio, the first Bishop of Vercelli, who died between the years 371 and 374: he built here the first votive chapel where he placed the statue of the Madonna found in Jerusalem. The statue was probably sculpted by St. Luke.
