Photographer's Note

The Castello Fountain stands in front of the Sforza Castle in Milan, Italy.

The fountain is a 1999 reconstruction of one built in 1930, during the Fascist regime. The "bundle of rods" emblem that symbolized Mussolini's dictatorship can be seen in the decorative motif around the central vat. The people of Milan call this fountain "tort de' spus", or wedding cake, from the shape created by the jets of water.
