Taken fromm the ferry boat coming back to Bellagio.

''Appointed as a fishing village in 769 was an ally in the era of Commons in Milan, was destroyed by Como in 1126. Welcomed the exiles from the island Comacina, which suffered similar fate in 1169: it was devastated, its castle and churches destroyed.

The neighborhood where they took refuge was called Insula nova, a name that was later extended to the whole village, which soon became one of the richest of the lake.

Still today, every year its celebrated the exodus of comacini and the reception of varennaschi. Saturday and Sunday of the week it falls on June 24, the feast of St. John. The lake is brightly lit with thousands of abandoned candles floating on water, how to remember the derelict souls who sailed from one bank to another, fleeing from their homes in flames.''

fantastic view of varenna and Lake Como. Clasic one, I have very similar photos. But the view is so beautiful. Nice composition, fine colours. Charming place.

This is really beautiful!
You did well to keep your shot so steady from the ferry boat.
Excellent use of horizontal layers, full of colour and texture contrasts.
There have been some very interesting programmes about the beautiful gardens of Italy, on tv. I particularly liked those from around Lake Como and around Florence.

What a beauty, a peaceful looking histioric fishing village. The beautiful pastel colors of the houses are strong focal of interest that draw attention. They standout superbly rendering a stunning contrast against the back drop and the sea. Well composed with some other attractive colors as well, the mild glow on the water is a bonus, and I feel that the high standing spire adds extra interest to this shot. Aaaaah ! Credo che sono in mancanza dell'Italia ! Di rivedere Varenna mi fa troppo male. È il villagio che preferisco al lago di Como. Avevo preso una foto simile alla tua ma non avevo un tempo cosi bello.
Come non avere la volglia di andarci vedendo questa foto. È una foto di bellagio vista su TE che m'aveva dato la voglia di visitare questa regione. Grazie TE. Secondo me, questa foto avrà anche un impatto sul turismo nella regione.
Bellisimi i colori in quest'ambiente verde.
Una foto che fa sognare.
