Photographer's Note

The facade of the Colleoni Chapel polychrome contrasts with the austere profile of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, on which it is stuck.

This chapel, built in the fifteenth century instead of the old sacristy, contains the tomb of Bartolomeo Colleoni. Its author is the sculptor Giovanni Antonio Amadeo.

Bartolomeo Colleoni was a "condottiere" (mercenary leader) of the fifteenth century. He was in the service of Venice before joining Milan, and back Venice.
