Photographer's Note
San Salvatore rock church - Vallerano (VT)
It is what today remains of a small Benedictine monastery dug into the tuff, after the catastrophic detachment of a ridge of rock which, in 1888, split the rock environments in two.
It is located on a high cliff that runs along the Rio delle Cannucce about one kilometer, in a north-easterly direction, from the town of Vallerano. Along this wall a long series of figures is frescoed: the Virgin and Child is flanked by three holy martyrs Lucia, Agnes and Sofia, first two on the left and the third on the right, now no longer legible, crown fans to the Madonna and Child, follow three Benedictine saints Benedict, Mauro and Placido. Hello Silvio,
A wonderful view of those ancient wall paintings, whose colours still stand out well from the texture of the walls. Excellent lighting and clarity as well.

Hi Silvio,

Buona serata! Luciano

Hello Silvio,
It is astonishing how many of these churches and chapels that exist in Italy, even though many of them have been seriously damaged through the centuries. In this case the paintings have deteriorated beyond rescue, but we see enough to get an idea what kind of impression they must have made 800 years ago or so. I really wish I could have seen them then. ;-)
You have given us the best possible view of this chapel today with this very well exposed photo.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Silvio,
It is actually quite surprising to find such murals in a rock church.
Even more amazing that the mural and its colours have been so well preserved over the years.
Best regards, Paul

Ciao Caro Silvio,
You have given us a complete view of this mural, where the haloed figures can still be easily identified. The recess, with the cross, is strongly positioned in the frame.
Isn't it surprising that many Christian places of worship are becoming obsolete. In your country they are left unattended; in my country many are changed into dwelling places.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Silvio.
An amazing work of art, which I think people's misunderstanding has treated worse than the passage of time, because the colors remain very well.
A nice composition, with great colors, light and sharpness.
Very well done, I like it
All the best for you.
Luis.

Hello Silvio,
Interesting monastery dug in the tuff. The fresco is not well preserved but we still can recognize the scene.

Hello Silvio
Beautiful view of the interior of this lovely church. I feel the damp and old atmosphere here. You showed it to us well. Thanks for sharing

Hi Silvio
An excellent full filled frame of the aged religious painting as we get to see very close detail of it. The elaborateness, natural colours and clarity are amazing.
Best regards

Ciao Silvio,
Every time I visit your rich gallery, it makes me think how valuable collection the TrekEarth website posses. And I am every time thinking that it would be such a pity too loose it.
Not much is left from the ancient place here but it surely convinces us about the former splendour of this place.
Very well done,
M
