Tomba Cima - Necropoli Chiusa Cima - Barbarano Romano (VT)

It is located within the Marturanum park, a protected natural area, with an extension of 1240 hectares that falls entirely within the municipality of Barbarano Romano. The site, established in 1984, covers a hilly area on the north-eastern edge of the Tolfa mountains, a short distance from the Cimini mountains.
Chiusa Cima is the main southern necropolis and one of the largest and most monumental with hundreds of tombs of different types ranging from the end of the eighth century BC, the period of ancient Orientalising to early Hellenism, the beginning of the third century BC.
These are mainly rock tombs, especially cube tombs, dug out of the tuff on various levels, partly around sepulchral squares. One of the main monuments of San Giuliano is represented by the Tumulus
Cima and the monument flanked with obelisk cippi. This very important funerary complex has been known since 1921, it was excavated and restored between 1962 and 1975, it includes seven tombs, the main and oldest from the third quarter of the seventh century BC. with a large uncovered dromos and seven chambers (Ceretan type B). The mound has a diameter of 25 meters and a drum full of moldings (preserved only in some parts). The name of the owner's aristocratic family is unknown.
The quadrangular vestibule of the oldest tomb oriented towards the northwest (i.e. towards the sector of the divinities of the Underworld according to the celestial Etruscan staircase) is characterized by a flat coffered ceiling with painted decoration with palmette chains and Doric doors.
The main room - restored after a collapse in the 1980s - has four pillars, a flat coffered ceiling, a large bed built in blocks with raised legs and was painted on the back wall with two rampant cats in a heraldic pattern and separated by a central palmette.
