Photographer's Note

The "Gallerìa Borghese" is a public museum located in the park "Villa Borghese" north of the historic center of Rome.
The palace was commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V (Camillo Borghese), mainly to accommodate works of art acquired by the family. It is inspired by the villa Farnesina and the villa Medici with a typical architecture of the 16th century.

Scipione Borghese was an early patron of Bernini and avid collectotr of works by CARAVAGGIO who is my main aim in this post. Only, We are not allowed to post paintings, so I shall add a few Caravaggio’s works in WS.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was born in Milan in 1571, and died of mysterious causes, in Porto Ercole in Tuscany in 1610 at the age of 38, after a hectic life, often in illegality.
However, his innovative and powerful work revolutionized the 17th century painting , with its naturalistic character, sometimes brutal realism and the use of the "CHIAROSCURO" technique .
He knew celebrity in his lifetime, and influenced many great painters after him, as evidenced by the appearance of Caravagism.
