Photographer's Note

Trieste used to be the port of the Austrian-Hungarian empire, these days it lies in Italy, some say it lies nowhere.

I've always wanted to visit Trieste, not just for its fascinating history, also for its literature. This is where the Irish expat James Joyce and the Italian Jew Italo Svevo once lived. Claudio Magris, one of Italy's best writers today, lives there now.

This picture shows a column of the Chisa Parrocchiale S. Antonio Taumaturgo. This large neo-classical church is located at the top of the iconic Gran Canal de Trieste.
