The Most Delicious Flag In The World, a photo from Salerno, Campania

Photographer's Note

ENGLISH: Now that the London Olympics have started, I thought I'd get in the spirit of things by uploading my favourite flag, the tricolour of Italy - made out of food. In this photo we have the green basil, the white mozzarella cheese and the red of the tomatoes. Combine these 3 ingredients together, add a little salt and you have the best-tasting flag in the world, not to mention a good Caprese Salad.

Photographing food is not easy, and I admit that this is not the best, there being a slight OE of the mozzarella. But I love cooking, buying, eating and looking at food too much not to try. condivido in pieno la tua opinione, più bei colori non potevi trovare per rappresentare la nostra bandiera, cibo sano e fresco, quì non parliamo di qualità fotografica ma di qualità di cibo...e della dieta mediterranea ne parlano tutti benissimo compresi i dottori...per cui...Forza Italia!!!

Hi Lisa, Making flag of food, or flowers, is a great idea. Have you prepared the ingredients itself. MMM, delicious caprese salat. Tasty composition. Our flag is even easier to make, only white and red. And without basilicum it wouldn't be so tasty. Good idea and splendid realization.

Who eats a flage Lisa...?
Fine close-up on food, the tomatos seem to be smiling into the camera.
Colors are amazingly fresh, the mozzarella is perfect in white not over-exposed.

Accidenti che foto, Lisa!
Un perfetto abbinamento di ingredienti per formare la bandiera italiana.
Questi sono i tipici ingredienti della pizza napoletana.
Basilico, mozzarella e pomodoro che appunto rappresentano il tricolore italiano.
Una bella e originale realizzazione fotografica con una nitidezza da tagliare lo schermo.

No, you can't beat a fine salad tricolore lovingly put together with tasty fresh tomato and basil and well sourced mozzarella. Makes the mouth water just looking at it. Thanks for sharing.

una composizione irresistibile! La nitidezza `e eccellente, l' illuminazione ben equilibrata, l' esposizione sulla mozzarella non potrebbe essere migliore nel mio parere. L' immagine `e incredibilmente vivace e appetitosa, si pu`o sentire le tessiture, i sughi, gli odori ed il gusto di questi ingredienti amatissimi dell' insalata caprese. L' illusione `e tormentosa...Complimenti e grazie!

I have not had the pleasure of indulging in this flag in Italy, but the same ingredients in small pavement cafe in a Corsican village I reckon must come a darn close second !

A lovely idea neatly executed ( not perfectly but better than most of us could do ! ) which gives a lovely addition to the glories of last night's ceremony.

Did you see it ? Slightly eccentric, and certainly something that a home audience would understand best, it nevertheless was a superb spectacle. Sadly like most the the billion audience, for me only on the square screen, not for real !

I don't spend much time on TE these days, but could not let this one pass !

Da me in Sardegna abbiamo la croce di San Giorgio, che fa inglese o viceversa.

sono l'ultimo della giornata a vedere la tua foto, ma sono anche quello che può dire...BRAVAAAAA... ci hai fatto vincere subito delle medaglie.
Per quanto riguarda il cibo della foto, direi che manca un solo elemento, ma fondamentale per unire il tutto, un pò di olio d'oliva (come quello che faccio io!!!)
Adesso cominciano anche con la pallanuoto...evvaiiii

Molto delizioso!

Despite what you say, I think this is a smashing photograph - it makes me drool, so it must be good.

It makes me think immediately of one of my favourite TV chefs - Antonio Carluccio, a lovely big teddy-bear of a man who is just so enthusiastic about food, cooking and eating. And of course, our own British cookery writer, Delia Smith, and this lovely recipe.

As I say, I love this picture. The lighting, to my mind, is perfect and I don't think that the mozarella is overexposed, but the light and shade on those delicious basil leaves is just out of this World - it's superb. And the tomatoes are obviously Mediterranean ones - not those things we get in supermarkets here and which are full of water and seeds with precious little flesh.

Fine, upclose view of some my favorite veggies, all in natural colors and good resolution.

Change the mozzarella to yellow cheddar and we have the national colors of my southern neighbors.

I add to your concoction - black olives, garlic, peppers, and chop into a CaliforniaOakie salsa.

That looks wonderful Lisa, a really great idea, and you captured the food brilliant. The pips and juice of the tomato, the leaves and that soft cheese. A flag I would most heartily enjoy munching my way through!

Yummmy! very tasty flag and great ideas Lisa. These are beautiful ingredients as well as colorful and a feast to our eyes, nutritious too and not only nourishes our taste buds, they nourishes our all senses. I like the tight closeup of this, the simplicity, everything is very effective. The clarity and vibrant colour is really beautiful and the arrangement but the color contrast makes a very exciting image. Delicious still life shot. Congrats

I'm already hooked, Lisa.
I love Italian food and in our little, nearby town, we have no less than than three Italian restaurants. We can take it in turns if we so desire!
One of the greatest developments in this country is the food. We have so many new choices, which refines the palette and makes the standard improve!
I love this idea of making your flag from food! The greens look particularly sharp and textured but the overall effect is good.
I have the feeling that the Union Jack would create a few more problems to create with food. I wonder if anyone will accept the challenge!

I like the idea of this shot which made me smile.
As you wrote, technically speaking it could be improved,but to have tried, I know the lightning is something not easy for food shots.
It also remembers me my 'food tour' when going in Italy.

Caprese salad is one of my favourite dishes. The very best of course is found in Italy where the ingredients are first class and the olive oil and balsamic vinegar are wonderful.
What a great idea to make not just a pattern picture but also the Italian flag. Super detail and very well cropped. Love it!

Second, BRILLIANT and well thought-out presentation, simply a gorgeous and YUMMY photo. So clear and crisp are the fine details to every piece of your POV here, that I now am thinking of making a Greek salad and taking a break, but I can't stop looking at this delicious photo of yours. Colors and lighting are perfect and the clarity is so stunning, I almost find myself wanting to take a taste of the cheese and tomatoes...........ok, that's it, I have to go eat......so with that being said, BRAVO LISA!!
