Photographer's Note

I spent a long time wandering around the ruins of Pompeii, and took plenty of photographs.

This one - a compound of five separate images - shows a panoramic view of the forum, looking North West towards the volcano that buried the town under countless feet of pumice, killing everyone who was unable to escape.

For me, both Pompeii and Herculaneum represent much more than the other Roman ruins I have visited previously. The others fell into decline, whereas Vesuvius ripped the lived right out of them.
