From the TE meeting in Naples, sept. 7 2008

The ws contains the view of the pizzeria's headstone.

Naples is famous for pizza, and this is the place to go to sample the best. The most historic pizzeria in Italy, Brandi was opened by Pietro Colicchio in 1889. His successor, Raffaele Esposito, was requested to prepare a banquet for Margherita di Savoia, the queen of Italy. So successful was the reception of the pizza made with tomato, basil, olive oil, and mozzarella (the colors of the newly united Italy's flag) that the queen accepted the honor of having the dish named after her. Thus was pizza Margherita born from the kitchens here. Today you can order the pizza that pleased a queen, as well as linguine with scampi, fettuccine "Regina d'Italia," and a full array of seafood dishes. Even Chelsea Clinton gave this place a thumbs-up.
