Photographer's Note

Hello Everyone,

These will be my last photographs from Herculaneum for the moment. It is a very interesting ruin but I don't want to bore people with similar photographs.

My main photograph, I hope, will give you a firm impression of what it feel like to walk around the ruins of an ancient city, recently excavated from metres of volcanic ash.

You can see different types of walls and different building materials. Many of the walls would have been covered in plaster, painted and decorated.

Walking through the streets, it was almost a surprise, to come upon other tourists, walking wide-eyed down the streets and into the buildings.

I will add two workshops, one showing a room in the bathhouse and another from the boathouse, which I didn't want to use as the main photograph, so as not to shock viewers.

Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
