Sassi di MaterarnThe Sassi of Matera constitute the historical center of the city of Matera, European capital of culture for 2019. The Sasso "Caveoso" and the Sasso "Barisano", together with the "Civita" district, form a complex urban core.rnThe Sassi of Matera were inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1993. They were the first written site in southern Italy. The inscription was motivated by the fact that they represent an extraordinary urban ecosystem, capable of perpetuating from the most distant prehistoric past the ways of living in caves up to modernity. The Sassi of Matera are an exceptional example of accurate use of nature's resources over time: water, soil and energy. The dense living space and the layered layout are clearly visible, the street on the upper floor acts as a roof on the lower level, there is not a centimeter of waste, the material excavated to enlarge the interior is used to enlarge the exterior, there is not a gram of waste, truly ecological architecture that should make us learn also for the future.r

Hello Silvio,
An excellent and interesting view from above of the old town. Except for a few trees and two flags everything seems to be grey, and yet it makes an impression of a very bright photo. The mainly narrow buildings are fantastic.

Cette vue plongeante sur la ville est une réussite.
Site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. Matera est une des plus jolies cités d'Italie du sud avec ses maisons troglodytes et ses églises rupestres tout comme grâce à l'hospitalité de ses habitants.

Un beau plan serré sur ce quartier qui semble vide de ses habitants. Ce ne sont pas les couleurs qui font le charme de cette ville italienne car c'est assez monochrome.

Hello Silvio,
You always find well elevated viewpoints to present the beauty of Italian cities and villages.
Perhaps such a place is not too difficult to find in Matera ... It's really an extraordinary city.
Remarkable that all the walls and roofs do have the same colour.
Matera looks like a labyrinth where you can get lost and discover beautiful views over and over again.

sono stato in molte città in molti luoghi bellissimi, ma a Matera si torna sempre volentieri e con piacere.
Meraviglioso scorcio, una città fatta di piccoli vicoli, scale, tetti, mura dove è fantastico perdersi.
