Monopoli
Comprising almost fifty thousand inhabitants, it is part of the metropolitan city of Bari. Monopoli is a town founded on the sea and the sea, a fishing village characterized by narrow paved streets in chianche, where sea air is breathed. Among the modest whitewashed houses open old squares, adorned with majestic churches and noble palaces. Here and there, there are testimonies and remains of medieval fortifications that tell of its ancient history, dating back to ancient times. The golden and sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. The entire territory of the municipality is characterized by the presence of ancient masserie, churches and rock settlements, trulli, neoclassical patrician villas and farmhouses.
The castle of Carlo V is a fortress built on the shore of the sea during Spanish domination to protect the entrance of the ancient port, on the northeast corner of the Monopoli wall. It is the key element of the urban fortifications system. At present, the city walls are visible and largely restored to the south of the castle to the Cathedral, including the bastions of Santa Maria, Pappachenere and the Cathedral.
