Photographer's Note

Dysert O'Dea is sometimes described as a castle but it is really a fortified tower house. It dates from around 1470 and has changed hands quite a few times. Some of the owners made the mistake of supporting the wrong chiefs.
Today it has been restored to be the very interesting Clare Archaeology Centre.
Nearby are some other good ruins, the Dysert O'Dea Monastery, to explore and in the workshop are a ruined house and a substantial cross.
