Photographer's Note

Kilkenny castle is the main and most famous building of city of Kilkenny. It was built from 1192 to 1207 by the english knight William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroken, who is sometimes considered as best kinght ever. The castle was built on a hill surrounding river Nore and is one of the biggest in Ireland. It was property of Butler familiy for 7 centuries but it was sold to "people of Kilkenny" in 1967 because the family could not maintain the castle. The castle and its grounds are now managed by the Office of Public Works, a State Agency in charge of maintenance of historic buildings in Ireland. You have to pay to visit the castle but access to the grounds is free of charge.
