Photographer's Note

Diarmuid and Gráinne's rock (the name is from a local legend) is an enormous sea stack in the Atlantic off the northern tip of the Loop Head peninsula in Clare, Ireland. The stack is almost 80m in height, almost perfectly rectangular and completely exposed to the elements - next stop New York!

This shot was taken as the first of the winter storms crossed the coast in October 2004, and unfortunately does not capture the sound and fury of the Atlantic swells that constantly batter this remote peninsula.
