Photographer's Note

Here is a not very known place of Iceland, but one of my favourite : Kerlingarfjöll mountains. These mountains are a volcano between Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers in Iceland highlands. It is only 1,477 metres height at its top but is isolated, hard to access (you need a 4 wheel drive to get there) and has a very rough climate (we had snow showers at our camp bottom of the mountains that evening !). The place is famous for the many walks you can do there, in particular in Hveradalir valley. This is where I took this picture. Hveradalir valley is a very amazing place ! Rhyolite adds red / orange colours to the landscape and the sulphur and water steams from hot springs create a unique atmosphere. Moreover at that time of the year the remaining snow makes the landscape more beautiful again. And most of all we were lucky having a fantastic light while the weather was awful all day long ! We enjoyed a lot our walk in this valley and it was no doubt the greatest photo pleasure of our trip in Iceland !
