Photographer's Note

Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvíta river in southwest Iceland. What a wonderful sight. Water mist, massive size, and a roaring sound. The path to the spectacular viewpoint is wet but takes you right into the falls on natural ground. These falls “fall” to a mostly hidden depth and feels like the waters plunge into a bottomless abyss. The water takes a complete 90 degree turn winding through the canyon path the Hvita river makes. There is a lot of water here. This is a must see waterfall for those who love this type of natural gift. We had visited about five falls before this one, each beautiful and impressive, but this one is a serious contender.

Note: It is wet and very slippery. I walked out to where these folks are - right on the edge - no safety wall just a single wire rope between you and "not" you. But worth the walk and being right there - the noise, wetness, the feeling. You can see the whole falls which is not possible to photograph all at once.
