In the east of Mývatn lake, Dimmuborgir (which means "the dark castles" in icelandic) is an area of volcanic formations made from erosion of a lava lake on wet grounds. It is composed of lava spires and caves which make it look like castles. It is one of the most known touristic sites in Iceland. But take care when you visit Dimmuborgir since it is said to connect earth with the infernal regions ...
