Photographer's Note
Sure, it would have been easier to post some photos of waterfalls or landscapes, but this museum has never been shown and I wanted to talk about it. The Siglufjordur Herring Museum shows the incredible economic rise and fall of this village during the postwar years. Sigurfjodur, a city that experienced a golden age in the 1950s and 60s as the capital of herring fishing, and then decayed following the migration of this over-fished fish species. Now this museum is left, you can see the production for export all over the world, and in the WS where the women dedicated to packaging slept and a calendar of the time.

Ciao Luciano
Maybe I should post a few shots from the Alesund fish processing museum in Norway? A large variety of herring products to choose from, and well framed and composed, with good colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Bonsoir Luciano,
Une composition qui est originale. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des boites de hareng. La lumière donne un bon rendu aux couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Hi Luciano
Iceland has developed various fish and fish oil processes, accounting for about 80% of Iceland's total exports. In particular, Icelandic troll fishing boats boast the world's best productivity. Agriculture is very limited due to the weather, and is fishing the only way to secure food? The reason why the population does not explode is because agricultural production is extremely limited.

Ciao Luciano You show an instructive historic array of delicacies intended for the fuzziest eaters of by then!
Picture wise, your upload is very interesting even though I never ate fish in my whole life!

Hi Luciano
Kippers have never been popular in Australia except with English migrants but this is a good fascinating photo of kippers packed for a range of markets.

Hello Luciano,
And wait, I see the red herring! They have herring paste, too, in Turkey I used to love anchovies paste. I wonder if herring paste is as salty as anchovies paste.
Regards,
MT

Hello Luciano,
Three nicely different and original photos, more fun than another waterfall and telling us more about Iceland. For all colours and details the main photo was the best choice. I see these herrings were meant for many foreign markets, including Sweden (Abbas matjessill; nothing to do with music group ABBA).
I like herring, and I like these photos.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luciano, three very interesting shots from your visit to the museum.
I particularly like this main shot with all the various shapes and colours of the tins etc., and all the different languages displayed, suggesting an industry where the herring were sent all over the world.
Kind regards, Jean.

Ciao Caro Luciano,
Your photographs and notes explain the result of lack of care for your product. Fishing was a bountiful venture; over-fishing, the loss of the whole industry!
This is a stark reminder.
The room for the women looks very Spartan! I thought, at first, that the room was a small cabin on boat.
I like to learn about history, this is something new, brought to our minds, with some very interesting images from the museum.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Ciao Luciano,
I am glad it is just a museum. I thought this was waste which you found on the beach in Iceland :)
Unless they did find it on a beach and decided to use it in the museum...
Very original presentation, so colorful and unusual.
Great reportage,

Herring is a big industry in Iceland, sure they have a museum for that purpose, Lucinao.
Needless to say that I do not know any of the displayed cans...
Different entry in your gallery, well shown - I will have a problem when I will, if ever encounter such a variety, and have to choose some...
Arrivederci,
Ike

I never saw such trade marks, in fact in those days until 1990 it was difficult to import goods in brazil.
nice idea to keep the memory of such products and its meaning for the local economy. nice photo.

Hello Luciano,
Wow, a real herring museum! It is a very attractive composition with all kinds of packaging for different kinds of herring. They all make a very nice and colourful composition together.

Hi Chris,
Visually impressive selection of fish tins marketed to different counties and language regions. Often such small museums are very interesting even when the theme is not in your special interests.

Hello Luciano,
Of course I know that the fishing industry is extremely important to Iceland. I didn't immediately think of herring. When I think of herring consumption, I always think primarily of our northern neighbours in the Netherlands.
A tube of fish paste as we see in the picture is also very popular in Norway, I remember. I don't think it is available in stores in our country.
The radio we see in the room in the WS reminds me of my grandparents' radio.
Beautiful pictures taken in the museum.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Luciano.
A very unique museum dedicated to herring, here we see a large number of cans of different brands, with which you compose a wonderful and different composition, the women who worked in these tasks led a very hard life, even sleeping in the factory, in beds most uncomfortable in a sad environment.
Very effective coloring, which highlights the details of the image.
Good management, both of brightness and sharpness.
Very well done. I like.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.

Ciao Luciano,
This unusual photo of herring packages is very interesting. It's fun to study them all. The tube that looks like herring toothpaste really catches my eye. :-) Looking at the WS photos is like stepping back in time. Great trio of photos. Take care!
