Photographer's Note

Around 10pm on the tram #18 in Budapest... a rather typical scene with which, as Francis (Furachan) would put it, I "couldn't be accused of working for the Budapest Tourist Board" :-))). The man in the front, inebriated as he was, constantly wanted to get my attention. The old man, in the hat and freshly ironed shirt, did not once look up from his reading--he was obviously all too used to scenes like this. While he kept on immersing himself in the evening news, the woman, next to him, was perhaps way too tired to open her eyes after a long day...

After the well-manicured somnambulist tranquillity of my present place of residence, this tiny corner of a Budapest night tram, just passing by nothing less grandiose than the magnificient Royal Palace bathed in rich warm orange light, was evoking a multitude of feelings in me. It somehow brought the various stages of Hungary's history to mind, from the Austro-Hungarian empire through the Soviet occupation to the fragile present.

(Perhaps I shall upload some less Kafkaesque shots as well... I feel perhaps my photos do not do justice to the beauty of Budapest...)
