Photographer's Note

Fisherman’s Bastion (Halászbástya) is a neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style terrace on the Buda bank of the Danube. The exact location is on the Castle Hill in Budapest, around Matthias Church. Its seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896.

Aside from the obvious major landmarks – the Royal Palace complex, Matthias Church and the Fisherman’s Bastion (Halászbástya) – the narrow streets and open squares that top this 60-metre hill also contain museums, from appealing oddities to national institutions, such as the Széchényi Library and the National Gallery, as well as assorted churches, mansions and statues.
