Photographer's Note

This is probably the most often photographed building in Hungary, I also made many pictures of it on my trips to Hungary. This 2011 picture is my my most recent one, taken from the Gellert hill. I put my first one, a scanned picture from a 1969 Kodachrome slide, into the Workshop. In 1969 there was a big red star on the top of its cupola and the walls were not as bright white as they are now. It was showing its age, now it looks like a brand new building.. Constructed between 1885-1904, in historical Neo-Gothic style, the cupola is Neo-Renaissance. Its architect was Imre Steindl (1839-1902), he did not see his most famous project completed, he went blind during the construction and died before it was completed.
