Photographer's Note

In the past, I have already uploaded some photos showing an event called ’Szakestély’ Now I made some fresh – and technically better – ones and I would like to introduce them.
The tradition of Szakestélys itself originates in the old miner traditions: the predecessor of the University of Miskolc was a mining school in Selmecbánya(now its called Banská Štiavnica and part of Slovakia). I suspect that some of the traditions find their origin in secret societies, since these events has a strict order, which has to be followed. Last, but not least Templar Knights had a church in the town. These elements - like the candle light, the ceremonial parts - lost their original function, and serve as a frame for the celebration instead. The so called Selmec traditions are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

The girl with the mug in her hands is graduating student inaugurating the mug of the event. This is done by an oral evaluation and by a practical experiment (drinking from it). Every Szakestély has its own mug, which has to be tried by a person invited by the President of the Szakestély. After the mug is declared to be proper, other participants too are allowed to use it. The guy with the ribbon holding the candles for her is the vice-president (Major Domus) of the event.

In the WS you can see a wider view of the event
Nikon D90, Nikon 50/1,2, wide-open, 1/40, iso 3200. Maybe the iso is a bit high, but my concept was to dispense with flash light or any additional light source, which would break the atmosphere of the event.
