Photographer's Note

But where's the fisherman? some may ask
Just a few steps away, enjoying a cafe frape in the shadow, wondering about what the silly turists might have found on his boat, walking around in the sun...

The colours caught my eyes.

From the net:
Kimolos is a kykladic island, was once one with Milos, but an earthquake separated the two islands.
The name Kimolos comes from the word for chalk, reachly to be found there, and it suits, since chalk is an export product for the island.

This volcanic, mountainous island whith white cliffs and roads is a perfect getaway for those who want some peace and quiet. It has not really been discovered by the foreign tourists yet. It is a genuine, picturesque island with friendly people.

It was part of the Venetian Dutchy of the Cyclades in the 13th to 16th century, but most of the inhabitants were pirates.
The Turks arrived in the 16th century, and invaded and conquered most of Greece. Kimolos was no exception, but the piracy on the island continued, and almost all the islanders left in the 18th century.

Most of the people of Kimolos (6-800) today live in the island's capital Chora. Because of the many pirate attacks the village has been built like a true labyrinth, in order to confuse the enemies.

It is a volcanic island with a variety of rocks. Some of theem are perlitis, kaolines and the highly impressive white rock betonitis or kimolia land, as it is mostly known. In Kimolos you can find deposits of semi-precious stones, like amethyst, quartz and opal.

But, apart from rocks, the island is famous for its fauna and flora. Its shores are a shelter to Mediterranean monk seal, while in the hilly bulks you will meet the rare specimen of viper lepetina, the blue lizard, the golden owl and thalassokorakas.
Kimolos has beautiful beaches that satisfy all tastes. Thin sand, pebbles and rocky shores compose a unique puzzle. The beaches of Aliki and Bonatsa are the biggest in the island. The beach of Agios Georgios with the white sand is one of the most impressive landscapes in the island. Small ports with hidden beaches reached only by boat give the sensation of a private beach.

An ideal place for peaceful vacations.
