Photographer's Note
The Academy of Athens is Greece’s national academy of science. The organisation will soon have 100 years since its creation, but its tradition refers to the Platonic Academy. The statues on the pillars represent Athena and Apollo, while the sitting marble monuments are of Plato and Socrates. The building was completed in 1885, but even though it is relative new in comparison to ancient Athenian structures, it has a great value for tourists because it allows us to imagine how the classical monuments may have looked before.

Hi Mariusz
ok...first of all, you mentioned you're surprised I have only posted a couple of photos from Athens. Yes...you're right. However, believe it or not I didn't enjoy my time here. Other than the classic postcard shots I didn't find there was much to photograph. I was very Un-inspired I guess. Maybe I was just in a bad mood? hahaha....not sure. Here we have one building that I didn't go into - and now i'm regretting it. Reading your note, I would find this quite interesting indeed. Sigh...now i'm starting to regret it all, and i'm thinking i most likely missed out on a lot.
great detail and crispness in your shot, looks classic as always from you. cheers

Hi Mariusz
I went here for blue hour but there were some Africans doing drug deals behind the statue at right at the top of the stairs. I didn't know at the time but this is a notorious spot after dark. I waited until they had gone. A pity as it is a very photogenic location. Nice inclusion of the mini avenue of trees, something I didn't think of! Tfs!

Bonjour, cher Mariusz,
Voilà une bien belle architecture antique réalisée au 19e siècle.
C'est beau, c'est remarquable !
Amitiés.

Hello Mariusz,
This building can be found on one of the broad avenues starting at Syntagma Square, isn't it?
However, I cannot remember the green surroundings. Your photo may have the power to make it appear greener than it really is.
For sure it's a beautiful building and you present it in a very attractive way with the high columns on each side and the statues on top.
The Greek flag flies proudly in the center.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Mariusz,
When I read your notes it just made be so ware of the impact that Greece has had on much of the world. We immediately know who Athena and Apollo, Plato and Socrates, were; or we have heard of them!
Your photograph is very well composed, with a strong lead to a very sharp, attractive focal point.
I like the shadow patterns on the steps ... I always seem to notice such details!!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Mariusz,
A classic Greek temple, but of a bit more recent date than many others in the city. I really like the symmetry here, even more emphasised by the two large pillars on both sides. Very well captured in a nice and bright sunlight.

Perfect symmetry in this wonderful photo, this building is a delight that reminds us of ancient Greece, the two columns are great with the sculptures of Apollo and Athena,

Good morning Mariusz,
I remember myself sitting on the pavement to take this special POV with the four sculptures and flag in front of the beautiful academy building - but you did a much better job here, I did not post this trial for some reason...
Located on the interesting Venizelou avenue, one of Athena vibrabt roads, the precise spot found at 37.9798, 23.7336 on the map.
Have a nice new week,
Ike
