Photographer's Note

Contre-jour shot of a fishing boat moored off Liménas, Thasos.

Not that many non-Greek tourists wash up on Thasos, or at least didn't back in the '80s. It had a quiet, laid-back vibe that I really liked. Liménas, the "capital" of the island was a simple, unpretentious little town: "gay tavernas on the waterfront" was the memorable description in the locally-produced guide, and appeared to be the utmost of their claims for the place. This photograph was made just out of Liménas in late afternoon. The near-monochrome result of shooting into the sun appeals to me.

Shot on "the tank" (Canon T90) - nearly new at the time - using Kodachrome. The film was scanned on a Nikon dedicated film scanner @ 4000 ppi, giving a 16-bit, 109 mg file
