Photographer's Note

Donkeys. They're a surprisingly useful method of transport on the island of Santorini. While they may be more of a novelty for incoming tourists from visiting cruise ships these days, their role in the past was certainly useful. These animals were elected to constantly climb the steep cliffside sidewalks built from the sea, straight up to the towns of Thira hundreds of meters above. Carrying people, food, and any other objects that people could not (or did not want to carry), the Greek donkeys of the past certainly put in hard days of work on this picturesque Greek island in the Aegean Sea.
