Photographer's Note

Not very fine quality but shows the greatness of this Mother Nature's miracle called "Meteora". I took this shot during the Easter of 2002 when I was at Trikala area.

Some short infos about the Holy Rocks of Meteora:

The word Meteora means literally 'hovering in the air' and of course brings to mind the word meteor. What created this rare geological phenomenon is one of the mysteries of nature and there are many theories though they remain theories and none have been proven. But as amazing a marvel of nature as these giant rocks are the buildings on the top of these are a marvel of man and seem just as miraculous.

Ancient Greeks believed that angry God's father Zeus threw these immense rocks when he was angry. They are huge and stand there for thousands of years. They are attracting many climbers who like to risk dangerous ascends. You can find climbing and mountaineering equipment in shops at the near town of Kalampaka. Worth a visit to admire the nature's greatness, or climb, or just go up by car to view the scene from atop. You can also visit some of the Greek-orthodox monasteries there, that they are very old and built on breathtaking hills.
