Siatista Village! is a small country town in West Mecedonia, 28Km on the west side of Kozani, rooted on Mt. Velia's slope at an altitude of over 900 feet and is the capital of Voio it is an odd picturesque village. It consists of two continuing close together very large neighbourhoods "Gerania and Hora". In each separate place colminates a belfry which signifies and cleterminates morphological elements which compose the towns (Siatista's) two traditional masts. The narrow paths give you the impression that you have been traped in an isolated place inclosed around bare mountains. Searching for independence and faith the first inhabitants came to thiw difficult of passage area.The sterile grounds drew them to cultivate vineyards and leather and fur processing as well as external and internal trade.This activity brought them close to foreign cultures from which they adopted the art they used to decorate the mansions and churches which fitted in so perfectly with the local tradition and architecture. Apart from cxreativity they brought quality to their lives and built a rich social life style. They quickly realized the importance of knowledge and their first priority was education and liberation.

Siatista and the Fur-business
A little piece of history
Fur coexist with city's life. Vison, foxes, racoon, ozelot, imported from Canada, Russia, United States, Japan, Western and Northern Europe are exported all over the world, even in Turkey. Fur is the life of Siatista. It is gospel, the unattainable, unique art. It has started in this poor place 400 years ago, when the expatriated Siatistans brought from the foreign countries, to their hand the "trashers of fur" to work on them with unique way and turned this trashes to GOLD. Siatista has today 1650 furrires, exporters with 4000 workers capacity. The exclusive privilege shared with Kastoria was granted to nomes of Grevena and Florina, except of the cities of Kozani and Ptolemaida. In that way it supported the poor villages of the neighbouring nomes, wich, without the Fur industries would have been ruined.
The working and trade of fur begun at the end of the 16th century, and early years of the 17th century, when the tradesman brought with the famous "caravans", furs from Venice, Vienna and other European countries.
This commercial activity was ended after the war between France and Austria, when the fur-business disappeared.
The fur craft was blooming again and reborned in Siatista. The way the furs are manufactured is original. Each fur coat is made of thousands pieces. (To get an idea, go to the production area)

Siatista is one of the major center of processing of fur worldwide.
For exemple, Interco works mainly with Canada and Russia, that today are still big consumers of fur.
