Photographer's Note

This is almost all that's left from the Monastery of Prophet Elias or Agios Modestos. The monastery was constructed in 1859 but now only this church (the Katholikon of the monastery) and a few cells still stand.

This beautiful church is located at a wonderful mountainous village, called Pyrra, Trikala prefecture. The population of the village, reaches 400, but during winter only 15 people live in there. Other things to see in the village and around: The church of Agios Nikolaos (17th century), a cave at a location, called Kazania, with an underground waterfall, and the Sarmanitsa cave. Pyrra is pretty close to the famous winter resorts of Elati and Pertouli. There are 3 wonderful guesthouses in Pyrra that stay open all year round.
