Photographer's Note

Glossa at sunset

It is cold here today (max -15°C) and this is perhaps why I picked a summery photo, trying to put some heat in it. Since I visited several Greek islands over the years, for me this is certainly a corner of the planet easily reminding of vacation and nice summer weather.

Glossa is a village on the western side of Skopelos, one of the Sporades islands. It is built on sloping terrain between elevations of about 200 and 300 m. If I remember correctly my Greek roots, "glossa" should mean something like "tongue" or "language" (think of "glossary"!), but is the name of that village really related to this meaning? In the background is the island of Skiathos, the island of that group that is closest to the main land. Some photos require a bigger effort than others: here I was having an aperitif at a taverna and I just had to get up and move a few steps in order to improve my point of view!
