Kokkinokastro is maybe the most impressive beach on Alonissos, with calm turquoise waters and a unique morphology, also called the "Red Beach" for the particular color that assumes at sunset. The beach lays underneath a steep cliff and is surrounded by large, imposing red rocks. Inside the sea water, at a little distance from the shore, lay the ruins of the sunk neolithic city Eikos, so it is also ideal for snorkeling and underwater explorations. The waters here are deep and cold, and there are sunbeds and umbrellas but no any beach bars and not in the end of season like in my pic. Therefore, visitors should make provisions for water and snacks.
