NOT the famous Santorinian sunset, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

There are so many beautiful spots in Santorini, for example, Oia, Imerovigli, Fira, Firostefani, Pyrgos, Akrotiri, where you can enjoy one of its famous sunsets! This spot, where I took this photo, above Athinios port is not considered one of them, but if you ask me it's one of the best.

The problem that day was the weather. Too hazy, too cloudy, too misty, certainly not the ideal conditions for a typical and representative Santorinian sunset photo, but still good enough for an atmospheric one, I think. From this point of view you can see part of the caldera and two islets (below the sun), Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni, on which you can visit the still active crater of the volcano. Behind the two islets you can see (or guess) the shape of Thirasia island, the one "closing" the circle of the caldera.

I totally agree with you! It may not be the most famous but it's certainly one of the most wonderful ones! Your picture is magnificent with the best and most suitable level of sharpness, exposure, colors, pov and composition!
In addition to the sunset, with the sun almost totally hidden by the clouds - very attractive - I also like the texture of the water surface and the details in the island, like the "snake-like" road and the reflections of the sunlight on the cliffs!

Well composed, very excellent color tone and a wonderful scenery!
You're capturing well this photograph from best angle.
It's so impressive about calm surface of water with small surf as well as sunset reflection pouring down the sea and bare rock.
And, very thick cloud with grey-blue tone draws out a good effective for the whole.

quizá no es la puesta de sol clásica en Santorini, quizá sea una foto inédita aquí tomada desde un lugar menos turístico en la isla, pero has hecho una foto tremenda, con un aprovechamiento perfecto de la luz del sol entre las nubes, la niebla, y la fantástica caldera, al tiempo que nos muestras un paisaje realmente impresionante.
Me encanta la luminosidad y la atmósfera que nos ofrece tu bellísima foto.
Es una composición impecablemente realizada.

No sé si las condiciones climatológicas pueden ser mejores. Al menos pasa por ser la más espectacular o una de las más espectaculares fotos que jamás he visto de Santorini.
