Photographer's Note

Pyrgos is a beautifully picturesque village in Santorini, Greece and has about 500 inhabitants; it used to be the capital of the island until the early 1800s. The traditional houses of the village are built and cluster around the Venetian castle, and the small narrow streets wind slowly up the hill. You can view the whole island from atop the castle walls. This large house, near the castle, is built on two levels and had the upper windows covered with blue boards in an attempt to keep out the heat of the hot Mediterranean sun.
