Photographer's Note

Although the building on the left -the cinema-theatre of Lakki- is one of the landmarks of Leros and much loved by inhabitants and guests, I admit I took this picture for the cloud and the colours.

The cinema-theatre is one of the iconic buildings of the Italian Rationalism and was inaugurated in 1938, when Leros was a very important Italian naval base in Southern Aegean. The whole town of Lakki was designed and built to serve the needs and ideals of the Kingdom of Italy. The Theatre was destroyed by bombs during the war and after some years became an open air cinema. About eight years ago it was reconstructed exactly like it was in 1938 and now is very frequently used for performances, concerts and lectures.
