Photographer's Note

A view from the marina of Lakki towards the town. The long building was constructed during the first period of the Italian occupation, 1924-1936.
A new architectural style was created then, that

(quoting from

"combined Venetian and Gothic features with decorative motifs from the Dodecanese folk art as well as loans from the tradition of neighbouring Arabian Mediterranean countries. A new eclectic architectural vocabulary resulted from the mixture of all these styles."

The building hosted barracks of the Italian Navy and was severely damaged during the aerial bombardments of 1943. Now its ground floor hosts several services of the Municipality of Leros.

Thank you for visiting, a lovely weekend to all
