Photographer's Note

This is the main beach of Critoni, following the long curve of the coast and followed by the road joining Ayia Marina and Alinda. It's not a touristic or trendy beach and is frequented mainly by the people of the neighbourhoods around it. The elderly neighbours usually come for a swim in the morning but the peak hour is after two. We even have our favourite tree shades but often walk over to other shades to see neighbours and friends and share our daily news. The children gather to the right hand side, the older ones spend most of the time diving from a jetty below my vantage point. The beach is deserted by 6.30 and then some anglers gradually take over. Three amateur fishermen's boats are moored on the left. Behind the big tree on the right there's a cafe' where the previous generations of neighbourhood children, parents and gransparents now, gather every afternoon keeping an eye on the children from across the street.

I had stopped to photograph reflections next to one of my favourite boats when I saw these fine ripples and decided to take the picture. The lighting was not very favourable but, still, this is one of my most familiar and beloved places in the world.

Thank you for visiting
