Patrick Leigh Fermor died on 10 06 2011.

"Man of Mani," as they called him after living for years in Kardamili, in a house designed and built himself, he left his last breath at age 96 years. From the most famous works of Anglo-Irish writer, was the "Mani", the "Rumeli", "Violins of Saint Jacques," "Between the Forest and the River," "One time gift."

Sir Patrick Leigh Fermor was a cross between Indiana Jones, James Bond and Graham Greene!

Sir Patrick born in 1915 by parents of English and Irish descent. First traveled to Greece at age 19, in a crucial life-journey made throughout Europe. Since then always return to our country, and wrote about it. Patrick Leigh Fermor fought in Albania, and from 1941 to the Battle of Crete, took part in the Cretan resistance.


"My love for her is absolute," he said about Greece. "Around 1936 I returned to England. The months that passed away from Greece seemed unbearable. So in 1941 I went to Intelitzens Korpi (Corps Secret Security) asked to go back to the Greeks at that time fighting in Albania. So it happened, "he explained. He lived in the monasteries of Mount Athos in Thrace, Macedonia, Athens and the Peloponnese course. He spoke fluent Greek.
After the defeat at the Battle of Crete, fled with his companions at Alexandria, then Cairo and Haifa in Palestine. With mind and heart of Crete, returned there in 1942. Disguised as a shepherd, lived over two years in the mountains organizing resistance, and the capture and transfer of the German Governor General Kraipe. He received the Distinguished Service Medal in 1944 and the Medal of the Order of the British Empire in 1943 and was named an honorary citizen of Iraklio, Crete.
In 1990 an honorary Doctor of Literature at the University of Kent. Awarded many times for his writings.
So went an adventurous life, full of Greece, the great love of Patrick Leigh Fermor, who proved in every way.
