Photographer's Note

This field of ruins in my picture was formerly the temple of Zeus, in my previous photos you can see sculptures remaining from this temple.

The temple of Zeus was erected in the years 470-456 BC in Olympia, it was built in the Doric style.
The temple was burnt by the order of Theodosius II in 426. Finally, it was destroyed by earthquakes in 551 and 552.
In the temple there was a statue of Zeus by Phidias, from the 5th century BC. It was one of the seven wonders of the world. The sculpture stood in the temple in Olympia for about 800 years, in about 420 it was transported to Constantinople, where it was destroyed by a fire in 475.
