Photographer's Note
A well known line from the tale of "Aladdin". Here the new lamps are on the quayside of the harbour in Molyvos on the island of Lesbos, Greece. The older lamps are on the deck of a trawler moored at the quayside and used for night fishing. (Hand held)
I apologise for the necessity to add a watermark to my images; I am trying to make it as discreet as possible. But in recent weeks I have discovered that some of my images posted on TE have been hi-jacked and are now being used promotionally on other websites, without my permission. I like this site and want to continue posting so this is the only way I can see to perhaps discourage this problem.

Good Morning Widow Twanky!
A carefully composed shot here Brian, with excellent exposure in difficult lighting conditions that provides enough detail in the shade and captures the lights without overexposing them.
Watch out - he's behind you!

Hello Brian,
When i saw the lamps in the gallery, i was not expecting to see the ship parts, now this is an interesting and different composition. I like the dark result, thanks to your exposure settings according to the lamps.
About the stealing of photos: I believe, anything shared on the net becomes anonymous and open to public. If someone wants to use this photo par example, it would be easy to delete your signature. Sad but true. The merits of technology...

Hello Brian,
I really just don't know how you do it! Please can you tell me the secret of your amazing ability to hold a camera steady? Or is it just that you can hold your breath so well?
You see, this was obviously taken nearly five years ago in poor light with an older camera at ISO 64. Looking at your exif data, I see that it was also taken at a focal length of 72mm which, with the Sony DSC-H1, was equivalent to over 430mm in 35mm camera terms. Even with image stabilisation, it beggars belief that you could still have taken this handheld at 1/20 second! That is, quite frankly, incredible!
Anyway, this is a brilliant shot in which you have managed to control the lighting superbly well. We can still see some detail in the nicely out of focus distance and the lighting on the two sets of lamps is just perfect - the old lamps with their lovely reflections as well as the pair of new ones which are brightly lit. The colours are delightful, the composition excellent and the details and sharpness superb.
A beautiful shot and an absolutely amazing technical triumph!
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Brian - Love this one, a creative and unique shot with such an interesting subject. You've done well with the exposure management and achieved good crispness for a 20sec handheld shot. As well as a moody colour palette the light from the lamps has added some lovely little highlights on the lower lamps and black lamp stand. These add to the atmosphere. Quite a change from you but a super shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Les nouveaux lampadaires semblent rendre un dernier hommage aux anciens qui partent pour leur dernier voyage! Très bonne composition et exposition parfaite.

Hi Brian
Credit to you keen eyes in spotting this attractive subject matters; a combination of old and new lamps in stark contrast of two difference designs and colours. I love your view point, the compressed perspective and juxtaposition with loads of fine detail that really bring out the characters of these. The dim low light has further enhanced the aged feel tremendously and I feel that you have achieved a great composition. This is a competent piece of work and a pleasure to view. Congrats, TFS
Your narrative is noted and in particular the second para is understandable.
Have a great day
Warm regards

Hi, Brian,
Despite the fact that photo is not so fresh, I don't remember so interesting image in your gallery. Perhaps I was fascinated of play of the colors on the other your photos ;) Anyway I like this clever composition with a lot of noteworthy details.
Best wishes,
Serghei
