Photographer's Note
Sunset in Peraia, a small town about 30 km outside Thessaloniki (the Capital of Northern Greece, the second largest city of the country, with more than 2300 years of important history). Peraia was the favorite destination for the summer vacations of the inhabitants of the city, during the 60's and 70's. Then beautiful Halkidiki took its place and for about 20 years Peraia passed a period of decline. Nowadays is starting to gain back its old glamour, and it's a place worth a visit for its great fishtavernes and nice beach.
ABOUT THE TITLE
According to Eurostat, Greece is the 5th poorest country among the 27 members of the E.U. with 30% of its population living very close or below the limit of poverty. Only Romania, Letonia, Lithouania and Hungary are in worse position. With the new measures imposed by the Troika in the new Memorandum today, leading deeper and deeper into endless recession, next year Greece will for sure go higher in this sad list. Thank you so much all you friends, allies and partners, E.U. and IMF for your help, we don't need it anymore. We can die all by ourselves, your help is not necessary!

Hi Hercules!
Wonderful picture!
Colors, management of light, chosen pov and compostiion are highlights but everything looks perfect!!!
As for the title and comments, I do hope Greece can find a solution for all those problems! Brazil has faced many, many, many problems... it's better now, but it's got a long way to go to real prosperity! If the whole World doesn't find a formula... Nor Greece, nor Brazil will ever give better lives for their people: us! Let's hope for the best!
My kind regards,
Neyvan

Hello Hercules - I hear your anger and listening to the news it seems as if the money-men have totally unrealistic expectations of Greece and her people. A beautiful sunset. I love the delicate line of lamps along the pier which, due to your POV become, along with the figures, a wonderful element of the image. With warm wishes Rosemary

Hello Hercules
Yes depressive all the more with the snowy weather we have in northern europe these days but I suppose that, as a greek, you're certainly talking about something else quite different!
A nice shot with this long perspective of the bridge enhanced by the presence of people and the line of light posts
Of course great sunset colors and nice compo with the sun well placed
have a nice evening

Hi Hercules,
I love how you managed to add a sad mood to an otherwise "dream destination" image.
I really hope things get better for Greece and the Greek people. It's scary to see how money can rule over everything else.

Kalimera Danos,
very nice view and composition. Good shot during the sunset time. I like the pier and warm hues also.
They in Poland also live with difficulty but we will advise ourselves in spite of political quarrels in our parliament. They far better for us live than in the days of governments of communists.
Have a nice day.

Great picture, more important title & note. I fully sympathize. Our governments are quick to save banks, and perfectly willing to strangle the poor for it.

Hi Hercules,
What to say? I do not know nothing about the politics. Why should the ordinary people pay for not their should? I cannot understand it. I hope everything will end well for greece and other countries.
Wonderful shot, The way to the end of this pier seems endless, I like this triangular composition very much. Nice line of lamps, Gorgeous colours of sunset. The perpsective here is great, not depressive.

Hola Hercules,

Hi Hercules,
I have watched this photo for a while trying to understand the title but it became clear of course after reading your note.
I am sorry to hear the sad news. I think this is just the statistics. I am sure people in Poland live in much worse conditions and have much lower standard of living even if our statistics is getting better. Statistics can be twisted to show what people want to see. For example we have relatively low unemployment, but the reason for that is, that millions of especially young people emigrated abroad in the search for work. Similarly we have huge growth in GDP, but it is because we were extremely poor for over 50 years, so the indicators can only go up. Also our average income is going up so fast, but in fact these are just salaries of a small group of managers in Warsaw, while people in small towns and villages did not see any life improvement since 20 years. But the average is growing like crazy. So first of all I believe you are not in such a bad shape. But of course the bad statistics is used by bankers, investors and stupid ranking agencies against you.
That is why you are suffering. The system is corrupted. People in power don't care about well-being of nation just about statistics.
Let me leave this topic though.
This is another of your spectacular works.
The orange color tones are amazing. Fantastic composition with the pier creating indeed a great diagonal, contrary to the title your perspective is great especially with the repeated element of the lamp. It is a masterwork.
Have a great Sunday,
M

Hi Hercules! Despite of the depressive situation, sharing this sunset images changes all the perspective we see about Greece at least, the beauty of this country doesn't lie in its economy but also deep within the people and its culture. Anyway, this is Life's inevitable cycle, eventually all will go through this and will pull it through.
On the brighter side, this post of yours is really beautiful. The orange tones are very attractive and pleasing to the eyes. The walkway evokes a great illusion that gives us a feeling of a tilted horizon. Top quality image, the sharpness and clarity is just superb! Bravo!
My compliments,
best regards,
