Photographer's Note

On the northwest coast of Zakynthos island is a sandy beach that has become famous because of a shipwreck. It's not sure whether the captain scuttled his vessel for insurance purposes, but it seems clear that she was carrying contraband cigarettes. The islanders regret that this lovely bay is invaded by tourists who gawk at the rusting carcass and swim in the turquoise sea.
The only way to get to the beach is by boat which adds insult to injury in the form of pollution, both petrochemical and acoustic. From up where I took this photo, neither was apparent.
