Photographer's Note

I have in my TrekEarth collection numerous black, white, golden, or red sand beaches but last summer, for the first time I went to a pink sand beach. Elafonisi Beach on Crete is advertised as a pink sand beach or sometimes simply the most beautiful beach on the island. It was spectacular indeed but because it was very flat and spacious, it was challenging to show it in an interesting way. A drone would be great there. I have some great family photos there but nothing exciting for TrekEarth to show. Nevertheless, I wanted to share this experience with you. The pink sand is real indeed. In the workshop I will add a close up of the sand to show the real color of it. However, it was never really an intense color but rather a subtle touch of pink sparkle. I took a lot of photos from various angles trying to capture the pink shade. I hope this photo here shows it a bit.
The road to Elafonisi was again one of the challenging ones. The guidebook says that many people give up and never reach this famous beach. May be after having a drive through this scary steep and narrow road people’s heartbeat is so strong that the beach appears more attractive than it actually is?
