Photographer's Note

I have this thing with those old stone bridges, they are in my eyes the symbol of the strugle of man to overcome the dificulties that nature puts in front of him. They are signs that nothing can stop a man who wants to travel and comunicate. Most important, they are so beautiful so well "attached" to the natural environment, they seem to be there forever. Whenever I go to a place for the first time, I always ask the locals if there are any stone bridges around.

In Greece you can find a lot of them in Epirus region (esp. Ioannina perfecture, and most esp. in the region of Zagori, where you can find more than 50 of them), but there are also stone bridges almost in every part of Greece, built from the 15th to the 19th century.

This particular one, is located on the "back" of Tymphrystos (or Velouhi) mountain, very close to a beautiful village, called Domniani. It's not visible from the road, so you 'll have to ask from a local to guide you there. I was very lucky to find Mr. Nikos, a 72 year old retired policeman, who had the vitality of a teenager and led me there. When I saw the perfect circle I was so happy that I smoke 3 cigarettes in the row and I had problems to climb back up the slope of the valley!
