Fishing at dawn, a photo from Etoloakarnania, Central Greece

Fishing in tbe Amvrakikos Gulf off Vonitsa at dawn.

We had moored up at Vonitsa on our way north up the Greek coast heading ultimately for Italy. We detoured into the Amvrakikos Gulf (otherwise known as the Ambracian Gulf, the Gulf of Arta or the Gulf of Actium) to see this huge inland sea. But we left early, as storms were forecast for later in the day, and we wanted to make the island of Paxos before they broke. So at first light, we slipped our mooring and motored out in the stillness of early morning. We weren't the only ones about however: this fisherman and several others had been out all night about their work.

I like the purple tones and the silhouette of the fisherman and his boat. The dark clouds may have indicated that the weather forecast was correct. It's a beautiful and somewhat moody composition.

Beautiful sunset view with wonderful reflections on the water. The tones are really nice and the capture of the man on the boat gives it a little extra life. Both are sharply defined and stand out clearly against the colourful water. A very atmospheric shot.

It sounds like good boating skills to move away from an oncoming storm!

Your photograph has no semblance of storm. It is utterly tranquil, we can only imagine the gentle lapping of the water.
It's a beautifully composed shot, horizontal layers, of differing colours and textures, taking us forever deeper into this early morning scene. Even the colours are gentle to perpetuate the mood of calm.

Bonjour Will,

J'aime beaucoup cette composition. La barque ainsi que le pêcheur en ombres chinoises sont parfaitement placés dans l'image et baignent sur une très belle mer rose de fin de journée.
