Photographer's Note

Displayed here is a part of one of the 75 ferry docking stations in the harbour of Pireaus (Athens, Greece). Piraeus serves almost all of the island s in the Aegean sea.
They’re constructed for ferry boats to back up against. Each docking stations has two of the displayed giant rubber rolls to cushion the shock of the hull of the ferry approaching the station and ‘bumping’ to a stand-still against it. Between the two rolls there’s enough space to accommodate the roll-on/roll-of loading ramp of the ferry.
The ensemble looks so very bold, industrial and self contained that I had to capture it.

Bump It is a Erikah Badu song from the Worldwide Underground album (2003).
