Photographer's Note

When I was in Athens during the 2004 Olympic Games to run the marathon (only joking), I wanted to take a photograph that combined the action of the Olympics with one of the readily identifiable sights of Athens. I discovered that some of the bike races were to be held on roads around the Acropolis, so I went searching for a spot that would enable me to take a photograph of the bike race with the Parthenon in the background. This spot which gave me exactly the POV I was looking for.

I took a number of shots some with slower shutter speeds so that the bike riders were blurred and some like this with a faster shutter speed to freeze the action. I liked this one the best because one of the two airships that were following the race just drifted into the top right hand corner of the frame as the lead riders came past this spot (the other airship was right overhead). The guys on the motor bike were the camera crew that was following the leaders.

PP: Removed a few dust spots from the sky with the healing brush tool, minor adjustment to levels, contrast +3, saturation +7, USM.
